What’s the correct pronunciation for Medellin?
How to say Medellín? The truth is that there’s more than one answer because Spanish is a very diverse language.
People in Colombia and other countries pronounce it differently depending on their region:
- If you are on the north coast of Colombia – MEH -DEH – YIN.
- If you are in Medellín or Bogotá – MEH – DEH – JIN.
- In Argentina and nearby countries- MEH – DEH – SHIN or MEH – DEH – GIN (like the
g in beige).
In other regions of Colombia and Spain there are other pronunciations… But sorry there’s no similar phoneme in English.
However one thing that’s good to know is that the Spanish accent in the Antioquia region of Colombia has clear pronunciation. It’s widely regarded as a great place for people learning Spanish because of our local accent. You don’t have to take our word for it.
